Carroll Shelby is Notable.
American automotive designer, racing driver, and entrepreneur, best known for his involvement with the AC Cobra and Mustang (later known as Shelby Mustangs) for Ford Motor Company, which he modified from the late s to the early s.[1][2][3]
Carroll Hall Shelby was born January 11, in Leesburg, Texas.[2][4] He was the son of Warren Shelby and Eloise Lawrence.[5][6]
Personal life
Carroll enlisted in the United States Army in April [7] He was an Army Air Corps flight instructor.[3] Story has it he corresponded with his future wife, Jeanne, by dropping letters from his plane as he flew over her farm.[3]
Carroll first married Jeanne Fields in They had three children.[8][9] They divorced in February
He was briefly married to actress Jan Harrison in , but the marriage was annulled in September of
He married Sue Stafford in New Zealand.
They were married for six weeks in about and [10]
In Carroll married Helena Dahl. She died in a car accident in [11]
Later the same year, he married Cleo. They were married until Carroll passed away in [12]
Career
Carroll had several career endeavours throughout life, including dump truck business owner, safari tour operator (during the gas crisis of the 's), raconteur, chili entrepreneur (starting the World Chili Cookoff competition and Carroll Shelby Original Texas Chili), and chicken rancher.
The chicken endeavour failed in the fifties. Carroll then exploded into the automotive world via the racing circuits, winning the 24 hour Le Mans race course in France in with his teammate Ray Salvadori. He had been racing in various circuits throughout the fifties. It started him on the journey he would be best known for for the rest of his life.[2][3]
He soon turned his attention to designing sports cars.

He later left Ford, and regretted it, having built over models while there. He returned in later years to work with the company. In , he was inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame.[2]
In , Carroll started Shelby American Motorsports at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. It produced the Shelby Series 1, as well as performance packages for Mustang GTs and Shelby Supersnakes.
The Shelby Museum is housed at the plant.[2]
Carroll was twice named Sports Illustrated's Driver of the Year.[2]
Carroll Shelby passed away at a hospital in Dallas, Texas May 10, [4][2] At the time of his death he had been one of the United States' longest heart transplant survivors.
His heart troubles started early in life.
Neither Shelby concept was built. On the same day, Shelby went on to beat a class of much faster Jaguar XK s. In , Shelby learned that some manufacturers will do about anything to win. Archived from the original on August 30,He had also received a kidney transplant from his son.[2] Carroll's health experiences led him to start the Carroll Shelby Children's Foundation in to support and assist children and young people with acute heart and kidney issues.[2]
Carroll is buried in the Leesburg Cemetery, Leesburg, Texas.[4]
